Erin Newman
|
Jazz and Lyrical Instructor

Erin grew up on the Central Coast and trained at the Academy of Dance of San Luis Obispo. She started out in the San Luis Jazz performing groups at a young age dancing all over California.  When she was a bit older, she started enjoying ballet and found she had a talent for it and eventually became a member of the Civic Ballet of San Luis Obispo under the direction of Lori Lee Silvaggio. Some of Erin’s most memorable rolls performed with the Civic Ballet include Rose Queen, Snow Queen, Lilac Fairy, Peacock and one of the 4 Divas in the original ballet, Wild Heart, with music by the great Jon Anderson of the rock band Yes.  Erin also had the privilege of training for a summer as a Trainee in the Joffrey Ballet Summer Intensive in New York City.

Erin received her degree from San Francisco State University with a BA in Consumer and Family Studies with a concentration in Child & Family Sciences.  Erin has a passion for working with young people.  While at San Francisco State she continued to dance and train in the school’s ballet program and was a guest performer for the company’s dance showcases.

When Erin moved back to the Central Coast, she had the pleasure of teaching at Coastal Dance and Music Academy in Grover Beach.  After taking a break from the dancing world to start a family, she is excited to be back and have the opportunity to be teaching at Class Act Dance.
