Sally Thornberry
|
Pre Dance Instructor, Choreographer

Sally teaches the youngest dancers at Class Act Dance, bringing decades of experience in dance and child development. She fell in love with dance at a young age, finding joy in expressing herself through movement. She went on to earn a minor degree in dance at Santa Clara University.  During that time, she was awarded a performing arts scholarship to travel and perform with a dance company in Poland and the former Soviet Union.  After earning her bachelor’s degree, Sally taught children’s dance while earning her elementary teaching credential. She began teaching in public schools and was awarded the Ercia Harden Teaching Excellence Award in Monterey County in 1993. In 1998, while teaching in Templeton, Sally was selected to represent San Luis Obispo County in a teacher exchange program to China. In 1999, she was selected to represent California in a Fulbright Memorial Fund teacher program in Japan. Sally worked towards a master’s degree in education with an emphasis in child development.

Upon the birth of her daughter, Sally took a leave of absence from the public schools. For six years, she owned and operated Wee Workout, offering parent participation classes in a mini-gym environment. Here she shared her love for children, the joy of music and movement and her expertise in child development.  Sally returned to teach in the schools in 2009, for five years at Children’s House Montessori School and now back at Templeton where she currently teaches Transitional Kindergarten. She is excited to be at Class Act Dance and sharing movement with the youngest of dancers, who lack inhibitions and bring an abounding supply of energy! Additionally, she is grateful to share the love for dance with her daughter, Sophia, who also dances here at Class Act Dance and of whom she is very proud!
